Does A Sore And Painful Spot In Underarm Suggestive Of Lymphoma?

default
Posted on Sat, 6 Feb 2016
Question: a week ago I had a sore XXXXXXX under my right arm pit which has since gone away but now have a shooting pain down my under arm when I stretch .......I checked my armpit for lumps and swelling but nothing ......but there was a tiny bit of like little bruising at top under arm ..........the skin on my underarm is sore to touch .......don't remember hurting myself ......I think I might have hurt my arm recently trying to close my car door with my right arm ..........but don't think it would have caused this discomfort so does it sound serious to you please ?
I am panicking and convinced it is Lymphoma ?

Brief Answer:
This is not lymphoma.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Please, forget about lymphoma. Lymphoma is a kind of cancer which attacks lymph nodes. Not just one lymph node or group of lymph nodes in one area. It literally attacks all lymph nodes. Characteristic symptoms of lymphoma is enlargement of lymph nodes on the neck (both sides), above the clavicle (on both sides), armpits (ON BOTH SIDES), groins and many more. So just pain under one side arm pit is not due to lymphoma for sure.

Most common reason of armpit pain is an infection of hair follicle (especially due to shaving). Swelling, bruise, or just pain can be present. Usually there is some hardness palpable.

If you find the injury can be the reason, I suggest you to wait few days with it and see. If the pain will disappear, no need to do anything with it. If not, go for an ultrasound.

As breast changes can also give armpit pain or lymph nodes enlargement, please remember to perform mammography every year and breast and armpit ultrasound if you palpate anything suspicious in your breast.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
