Brief Answer:
Yes, on affected side.

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Thanks for the query..

A dental abscess can cause pressure over the nerve endings causing numb feeling in the affected area..

At times due to inflammation and swelling also there is a numb sensation..

Please provide following details so that I can guide you better.
-Is the numbness only on the side where you have abscess?
-Is there swelling present?
-Is the numbness anywhere else too?
-Since how long is it numb?

Please revert back with answers..

The numbness is on just one side of my tongue on the side where the abscess it and it is swelled only on that one side underneath and it's only been about 24 hours that it's been numb. I have been on Amoxicillin for 5 days now

The numbness and swelling both is due to infection only..
Do not worry, get the tooth treated.
