Question: (1) Does Tums contain aluminum? (2) Are Tums and Carafate incompatible? (3) How effective is Carafate in capsule form for acid reflux? Thank you!!!

No aluminium in Tums!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

1. There is no aluminium in Tums. Tums contains calcium carbonate for neutralizing acids.

2. It is good to take them separately because tums can reduce the effectiveness of carafate. it is advised to take them at least 30mins apart.

3. Carafate is mainly used for treating duodenal ulcer. It is not the first line treatment for acid reflux. I will prefer Ranitidine or omeprazole in tackling acid reflux as first line drugs.
