Brief Answer:
Sweats

Detailed Answer:
Simvastatin is not known to cause night sweats.

Thyroid problems can cause excessive sweating. An over active thyroid condition can very well explain this. A simple blood test called TSH can help look for this condition. This test does not require fasting and can be done at any time of the day .
There are other medical conditions that can cause night sweats such as

Menopause: I know you are past it but they can occur at any age after menopause.

Acromegaly: This is a rare condition. A good test to screen for this is called IGF1.

I read that simvastatin after taken for several years can cause night sweats in people in their 70. I only have the sweats after I have taken the medicine, no other sweats during the day or night......

Detailed Answer:
To the best of my knowledge of published medical literature, statins are not known to cause such a side effect.
However that does not mean I discount the possibility of this occurring in you.

I suggest you see your prescribing doctor and consider swapping the simvastatin with another medication in the 'Statin' family
