Does Nebicard Cause Low Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 May 2015
Question: Hi,

For the past 3 months I am on Nebicard 5mg. I recently acquired a wearable device to monitor my heart rate. My resting heart beat is averaging between 52 and 55. When I walk for about an hour it raises to 110+ and falls to 50's after an hour or so. I wonder if Nebicard 5mg is lowering my heart beat. And more importantly is 53-54 bpm too low for me to be worried?
Could someone tell me if I should see my doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir
1. Yes, nebicard or nebivolol is a heart rate reducing beta- blocker. It is bound to decrease your heart rate as compared to previous levels.
2. No, 52-53 beats per minute is not abnormal for a person on beta- blockers like nebivolol. In fact this may not be abnormal for most healthy individuals. You should only consult your doctor for this heart rate if you have any worrisome symptoms attributable to it. These may be dizziness, marked listlessness, episodes of unexplained fall/ blackout / unconsciousness.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder
