Question: My question : can short term memory loss due to hydrocodone use (patient - my mother is 84) be recovered when opioid is discontinued? Can you supply an academic study which verifies the possibility?

Hydrocodone use is known to cause memory and cognitive issues. But these changes usually recover with time. She is 84 and at this age it's difficult to ascertain if the issues are due to opioid use or age related. This might take long time for recovery because the course can't be predicted considering her age.

I couldn't find any specific study showing the reversal of memory functions especially at her age.

Cognitive enhancers like Piracetam can help in recovery.
