Does Dicloflex Constrict Blood Flow?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Sep 2015
Question: I am a 59 year old female. I have been for two blood tests in the last week. The nurse was unable to get any blood at the first test a week ago and said that this was because I was dehydrated. When I went back today I made sure that I drank 1 pt of water half an hour before I got to the surgery. On this occasion she could only get about half a tube - she tried veins in both arms. Could this be a side effect of dicloflex? I have been taking it for rheumatoid arthritis for 3 years now, and my GP told me that it is likely to be withdrawn in the UK soon because of concerns that it causes circulation problems.

Well, it is a possibility your veins are quite thin and due to dehydration it may not be visible at that time. Some people have a tendency for the veins to be thin and with age the skin over it becomes loose so it tends to slip away.

Dicloflex does not decrease the circulation but it tends to thicken the blood, that is if we use it excessively, it increases the blood viscocity. So, yes the blood does not come out freely as it should.

But considering you have rheumatoid, you should be off NSAIDS as we prescribe the other drugs to minimize the side effects of pain killers.

You can discuss with your rheumatologist for a safer pain killer option
