Does Buspar Interact With Effexor?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Dec 2015
Question: During the past week I have started being aware of a constant strange smell that no one else smells. I've recently added buspar to the effexor I already take for anxiety. I have extreme dry mouth symptoms because of this and toprol. After much reading, I'm really afraid of a "brain thing " going on. What are the chances this is due to meds and not a brain tumor???

Brief Answer:
Most likely drug related

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Parosmia in your case seems to be secondary to addition of buspar.
The other causes of Parosmia are head injury, brain tumor, sinusitis but without any other symptoms and abnormalities it is highly unlikely.
Best approach will be to stop buspar and wait for symptoms resolution.
If after few weeks you still have such symptoms then visit a neurologist for examination and evaluation.
hope you found the answer helpful.

Thank you. After further reading, it seems that the constant smell I'm experiencing is probably not coming from temporal lobe seizures which I was concerned about. I do have an mri scheduled to rule it out.
