Brief Answer:
May help you to sleep

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for using Health Care Magic for posting your query.
Benzodiazepines are the best drugs to control the withdrawal symptoms. Although atarax will help you to go to sleep, it may not be able to control your withdrawal symptoms.
If you were only taking a small amount of alcohol per day, you may still try. But if you were taking a large amount, atarax may not be a good option.

Kind regards

Thank you I've heard Atarax can help relive withdrawl discomfort but wasn't sure to what degree. I went to the ER yesterday but all they did was just give me six Ativan to take over the next days. I've been through this situation and I know for me that is not enough. In the past they had given me a bed and kept me for 2-3 days. Later I did contact another smaller hospital nearby and am waiting to hear from them. So I'm holding off on using the Ativan until I hear from this hospital and simply nursing some beer just to keep me stable so I don't fall down or have a seizure. I've always heard, even from other counselors, until a heavy alcoholic can get proper medical supervised help it is best to keep them lightly drinking so their body doesn't react.

Brief Answer:
Ativan is a good option

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Ativan is a very good option and you may try it. You may use it ones or twice a day as required, instead of taking alcohol and then gradually tapper it off.
If you are on beer right now, then ativan should be good enough to take care of your withdrawal.
