If the last sex was two days ago and you are in the second half of your cycle then you can safely start with amoxycillin. In case this is your first half of the cycle then do wait for 2 days more and then start with amoxycillin. Till then start taking plenty of fresh cranberry juice. It will help in reducing the symptoms.

I had unprotected sex in the last two days. Unfortunately now I've got a urinary tract infection and have been prescribed with amoxicillin despite having told my GP that I'm on birth control (mercilon). Would it be alright to take the antibiotics now, seeing as how sperms' life span can go up to 5 days after unprotected sex?Thank you. Once I've started on the 5 day prescription of amoxicillin (in two days), would I need to wait till another cycle before mercilon becomes effective again as a primary contraceptive option or does mercilon immediately become effective again at preventing pregnancy right after I finish my prescription of amoxicillin?

Thank you. Aside from cranberry juice, is there any other medication I can take for UTI? Or another antibiotics that does not affect the effectiveness of mercilon, but can still be used for UTI?
