Does Aleve Interact With Methotrexate?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 May 2017
Question: When I take this medicine I'm not supposed to take alive. Does that mean only on the day I take methotrexate or during the off days too. I do need something for pain. I also have kidney disease.

Brief Answer:
Please, your question is not clear!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for contacting us at healthcare magic.

Please, your question is not very clear. I will like some clarifications to make sure we are addressing the exact concerns that you have.

1. Are you asking whether you should take it daily or not? This drug is rarely prescribed daily and in most cases it is taken only once per week.

2. Are you also asking whether it is best to take at what time of the day? This doesn't really matter. What matters most is taking at a particular time and doing so consistently.

3. Did you tell your doctor about kidney disease before prescription? The dosage is normally adjusted to take care of any underlying kidney disease.

Let me know if these address your worries. If there is an aspect not addressed, it is because I might not have understood as the questions are not very clear, kindly restate for more insights from me.

Thanks for using our services.

I take this medicine once a week, on Sunday. My question is, on the other days of the week is it ok to take an alive for my arthritis? I was told I can't take an alive with this medicine. Does that apply only to the day I take methotrexate or do I have to abstaine from any pain medicine during the whole course on taking this medicine? Also, is it best to take it with or without food?

Brief Answer:
Aleve is strongly discouraged while on methotrexate.

Detailed Answer:
HI,

1. Even within the week, it is not advised to take aleve while on this drug. If you still have pains. talk to your doctor to consider offering other pain medications. This is because aleve and methotrexate when taken together significantly increases the side effects of methotrexate.

2. Whether with food or without food, there is no interaction with it. However, caffeine reduces absorption and should be reduced.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.
