Posted on Wed, 30 Sep 2015
Question: Hi,
I am a very concerned mother of an 11 year old boy. I want to know if testosterone injections prior to full puberty have been known to help increase penis size? Also, is it possible that these injections can cause the opposite effect?
Grateful mom

Brief Answer:
Possible

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern. Yes, it is possible to increase the penile length if the puberty is delayed or if there is micropenis. These injections are generally given in small dose once a month for 3 months and has no long term side effects. Please meet a pediatric endocrinologist to discuss further. Your son need to be examined and will have to undergo few blood works.

Hi and thank you for your response. I'm not sure but I think the doctor may have prescribed 100mg over 3 months not 50mg each month. Yes, the treatment was prescribed to help legthen his penis. I still need to get his Bloodwork taken as well. I presume this is to check his thyroid and hormone levels. I will do this very soon. I was not approved for the medication via the insurance company but I am willing to pay if it can in fact be of help as you mentioned. Do you think 100mg is safe as well & no contraindications if taken for 3 months? If I waited until he was in full puberty would it be too late for this treatment course to work? And lastly, if he may have a normal range penis could this hinder it taking those 3 injections at 100 mg per month times 3 months? I need to be sure I do everything in my power to help my child not hurt him in any way.
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Testosterone injection dose

Detailed Answer:
I tend to give 50 mg every month for 3 months. However, the dose prescribed for your son may be required if there is no response. I prefer to start with 50 mg rather than 100 mg. If he is obese and has sleep apnea, we should be careful in prescribing testosterone.

Giving testosterone will not harm him in the long run ( infact, it may help). It is true that penis enlarge in size during puberty. However, in boys with micro penis, there is no need to wait till pubety to prescribe testosterone.

Could you please tell me what is his stretched penile length as per the endocrinologist's notes? And what race is he ( caucasian, black, asian). There are race specefic range for penile length in boys.
