Do Progesterone Supplements Delay Menstruation?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: I am trying to conceive and I got TVS follicular study done in this cycle based on which my doctor recommended me to take Susten 200 twice a day for 12 days after ovulation had occurred. Now I read somewhere that Progesterone delays periods. So my question is that in case I am not pregnant then will my periods get delayed and for how many days? Should I stop this medicine before 12 days? Also when should I do pregnancy test at home, considering that my ovulation occured on 27th Sept.

Brief Answer:
Susten should be taken for 12-14 days post ovulation

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Progesterone is known to delay the period, but susten is natural micronised progesterone which is given to make the uterine environment more favourable for conception, and has minimal effect in delaying the periods.
It should be taken at least 12-14 days post ovulation to assist conception.
Usually the periods occur within 5-7 days of stopping susten.
If you have a regular 28-30 days cycle, then you should get your urine pregnancy test on around 15-16 th October, 2015, which will be the date around your next expected periods.
