Diagnosed with lazy bowel syndrome. What is the cause, treatment and precaution to be taken?

My 15 year old grandson, after missing 3 weeks of school from nausea, has been diagnosed as having "lazy bowel syndrome". What is the cause, treatment and prevent measure to avoid recurrence ?

I would like to have some more information before i can give my opinion.

1. What symptoms he has other than nausea?
2. Is he constipated?
3. Is he on laxatives for a longer period of time?
