As per your complaint pain in your Root Canal Treated tooth that is capped after 3 years can be most probably due to re-infection in the tooth leading to pain..

I would like to know a few more details so that I can guide you better..
1.Is the pain always present or happens only on eating?
2.Does the pain increase on lying down?
3.Is there any swelling also present?

Brief Answer:
Seems to be re-infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome back

As per your complain it seems that you have re-infection in the Root Canal Treated tooth leading to pain and swelling.

Swelling is most commonly seen in case of infection.
I would suggest you to consult a Dentist and get evaluated and he can do an x ray of the tooth so that the exact status is ruled out and treated accordingly.

As of now to relieve pain you can take pain reliever like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac.
Do cool compresses over cheek.
Take a soft diet and avoid chewing from the painful side

Revert me back with the scan of the x ray of your tooth

Brief Answer:
Yes, can be treated..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome back..

As per your query I would first of all like to see an x ray of your tooth so that I can advise you accurately..

Bit in general if there is re infection in your root canal treated tooth then it is initially treated with antibiotics and painkillers..

In case if it does not resolve then removal of cap followed by repeating the root canal treatment and replacing of cap is done..

I would still ask you to send a scan of your x ray of the tooth for better guidance..

Any further questions are welcome..

Brief Answer:
No need to remove cap if the infection subsides..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome back..

As per your description it looks like you have been advised Apicectomy procedure in which you will directly be treated at the area under the root tips where there is pus formation and pus will be drained and tooth will be properly sealed followed by antibiotics and painkillers..

In this procedure the tooth and the cap along with the root canal treatment is not disturbed to maintain the integrity of tooth..

So you can proceed for the treatment..

Brief Answer:
Wall off of infection with antibiotics..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome back..

It seems that hardness of the root area of your tooth after taking antibiotics can be due to localization of infection due to antibiotic intake..

There is also a possibility of Cyst formation ..

You should get an X ray of the tooth done and send me a scan for better understanding and diagnosis..

Further queries are welcome..

Regards..
