Brief Answer:
Squint can be confirmed by simple tests.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic.

Iam Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

It seems from the history that you are asking about squint or starabismus.

Squint is a common problem seen in childhood where the eye appears deviated outwards or inwards or upwards or downwards.

This can be confirmed by simple clinical tests and by seeing the photographs.

Kindly send me a photograph preferably taken while the baby is seeing straight forwards.

Coming to your second part of questions.
This problem is 100% curable and treatment depends on the type of squint and the associated refractive error along with it.
The main treatment options are
Glasses
Prescrition of prisms
Surgeery.

Kindly send me a photograph if available and I will advice further depending on the presence or absence of squint.

Hope I have answered your query.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
It can be Congenital esotropia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic.
Thank you for the follow up query.

I went through the photos which you have sent, my findings are
Two photos are showing esotropia or medial deviation of left eye
One photo is showing esotropia of right eye

This can be congential esotropia or Accommodative esotropia.

This is more likely to be congenital esotropia because of age of your daughter which is 4.5 months now.

Congenital esotropia is seen in about 2% of new borns and treatment basically depends on the associated refractive error and state of vision.

First thing you are supposed to do is to consult Pediatric Ophthalmologist or Squint specilaist for examination and confirmation of diagnosis as many conditions can present like squint.

Once the diagnosis is confirmed next thing to be done is to determine the vision state and any associated refractive error. Correction of any refractive error if present is required. In few cases this may be sufficient to correct squint. A few cases may require surgery.

Coming to your questions,
Surgery is it a major one?

Surgery is required in few cases and if required when done early has got good prognosis and enables to develop binocular single vision. Hence my advice is not to hesitate to go for surgery if required as early surgery has got good results. Delay in surgery is not a good idea as surgery at a later time may improve only cosmetic improvement without any improvement in vision.

Coming to second question regarding glasses, glasses means spectacles in this case they are not required for full life time but only till the accommodation and accommodation ratio is corrected which occurs by 4-5 years of age.

Hence I advice you to consult your Ophthalmologist at the earliest and get the diagnosis confirmed, and if the diagnosis is confirmed as Iam suspecting please do discuss all the options of treatment with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Treatment needs to decided based on diagnosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Health care magic

Thank you for the follow up query.

Coming to your first question, many condition can present like squint means what?
Some conditions of development of face like broad nose result in appearance of squint. This is unlikely in your daughter's case as seen from the photos.

Coming to second question, what is refractive error?and what are treatments for refractive errors?
Refractive errors means defective vision and it requires treatment by appropriate lenses prescribed in the form of spectacles.
In children high refractive errors can case squint and it is very common in children. This condition requires treatment by prescription of spectacles, they correct both refractive error as well as squint.
I have come across many babies with this problem who are wearing glasses and they are doing well. Since the children see good with glasses they accept it very well. So no need to worry regarding this if this is required as a part of treatment of your daughter.

Surgery for congenital esotropia has got very good results, only limiting factor is it has to be done earlier.

Eye exercises are an important part of treatment in congenital squint and depending on the need they will be told by your eye doctor.

Hence I advice you not to worry much about the treatment part, the most important thing is to confirm the diagnosis by examination by eye specialist and treatment accordingly. This is very important because results of treatment are good as early the treatment is started.

Hope I have answered your query.

Thank you
