Child Suffering From Gas Problems. Mucus Has Been Found In Stool Test. Suggest?
Question: Hi Dr.
My baby's age is 23days. She is suffering from gas problems. Most of the time she passes gas and while feeding time also lots of noise comes from the belly region.
and at the night time mainly she cries a lot even after full feeding, we feel that might be bcoz of the gas prob.
we consulted with one dr. he suggested a routine stool test, where a lilbit mucus have been found.
Please inform what to do ? if any antibiotic is needed? we are giving colicaid drops twice a day. is it safe?

Flatulence is a common problem in new born babies. The problem arises if the feeding position is not alright.
The baby may suck in air along with milk.
The correct position for feeding is, the mother should take a good back support, a pillow should be kept over the lap to support the baby, the nipple as well as the areola should completely be inside the baby s mouth.
The baby should be fed every 2nd hourly once, or on demand.
Most of the babies cry in the night , it is a common thing to be noticed.
The baby has just now arrived to the outside world, so it takes time for adjustment.
Dont loose your calm. Keep a cool mind and feed the baby , by doing this the baby will get sufficient milk and will be less irritable.
You can log on to youtube to see the correct feeding position.
Colicaid drops should not be given too frequently.
If proper feeding position is followed , your baby will be freed from the gas problem.
Mean while just check for fever , difficulty in breathing . loose motions, any reddish rashes in the diaper area. Antibiotic requirement may arise if the stool test reveals plenty of pus cells or if there is any blood in the stools.
Get a stool test done for reducing substances also and review with report.
