Child is having chest pain when coughing. Can this lead to hernia?

What can I give my 8 year old son for pain on his side and chest from all the coughing.. Can he hurt a muscle or get a hernia from so much coughing?

No, only chronic cough can lead to hernia and in that case too not always.
Yes he can hurt his muscle and tylenol will provide relief.
