Welcome to XXXXXXX

I advice you (your son) for salt water gargling and steam inhalation 3 to 4 times a day. Over the counter cough formulation will be helpful. Follow this he should be fine in 3 to 4 days. If the symptoms persists after 4 days or the severity increases i advice you to visit the child specialist.

Hope I have provided the information you needed.
Wish you good health. Take care.
