Brief Answer: metronidazole alone is sufficient Detailed Answer: Hi XXXX, Welcome to Healthcare magic. There is no need of cotrimoxazole for amebiasis. The usual doses of metronidazole is sufficient, if taken for optimum duration. The diagnosis must be finalised by a physician and the dose also should be decided by the practitioner. Child is apparently overweight, you should guide him to control weight once he recovers. I hope the advise will be helpful for you.
