Question: Hi, baby has a metopic ridge, waiting on craniosynostosis results. Also has had cough for 8 weeks and throws up (not projectile) after every formula feed. Also sweats (cold and hot sweats a lot). Should I be asking for genetic testing for something.

Hi dear,

Thanks for your query to XXXXXXX

You said craniosynostosis results are awaited. Let them arrive. If it comes positive, then your baby needs surgery to open the fused sutures to give room for the growing brain. Your doctor may order genetic tests to rule out conditions like apert's syndrome, crouzon syndrome. Till then you can wait. No need to hurry.

Babies are prone to have cough and vomiting due to reflux. As long as your baby is gaining weight regularly, a bit of throwing up with coughing is acceptable. They are called happy spitters. But if your baby is not gaining weight, then your baby needs evaluation like barium studies, ph studies, abdomen scanning. Discuss with your pediatrician if your baby is not gaining weight. But vomiting and coughing doesn't seem to be related with your baby's craniosynostosis. It happens frequently with many babies.
