Can Premolut Depo Use During Pregnancy Cause Bipolar Disorder In Kids?
Question: I took primulot depo in 1970 till my 20th week of pregnancy. I gave birth to a baby girl who is now nearley 40 & suffering badly from hormonal problems almost verging on being bi polar. I am worried that this might be as a reult of my taking this drug which was prescibed because of many previous miscariages.

Hydroxyprogesterone caproate is an ingredient of Primolut-Depot used to prevent Preterm birth, but the usefulness of the drug is questionable as there are very limited studies available.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. As such it does not have any effect on the fetus.
Bipolar disorder is not caused by this drug. Causes of Bipolar disorder includes certain genetic, psychological, environmental causes. These should be excluded.
I advice you to consult a Psychiatrist and you provide her the much needed mental support. Family support is always a must.

My main concern is whether or not the drug I was given is known to have had any effect on the foetus. I think you are saying that it hasn't? I may have been a little harsh in referring to bi polar but my daughter has certainly been acting out of character lately & has anger management issues.

I think you daughter might be doing this do to some stress or some problem, in any case she needs little more attention from you and offcoarse family support.
I advice you to try to find out the cause for anger and reason why she is acting weird.
If you fail to find out the reason and same behaviour she continues, I advice you to consult the psychiatrist.

just to confirmthen, there is no evidence to date of Primulot Depot effecting the unborn feotus?

As such there are no studies that is conforming that it responsible for psychiatric illness in offspring but certain studies have reported to cause masculinazation of the female fetus.
