Brief Answer:
Let me know your medicines

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for your query.

To tell you the fact, the definition of high BP is very flexible. Many years ago, BP was considered high when it was more than 150/100. Nowadays It is considered high at levels of >140 and/or 90 mm Hg on three different occasions. The best definition came 30 yrs ago that hypertension should be defined in terms of a blood pressure level above which investigation and treatment do more good than harm.

When high blood pressure is found, it is important to find a treatable cause for the high BP. Thus I would advise to get tested under guidance of a cardiologist.

Secondly, your BP is on the edge. Before trying medicines, diet and exercise should be tried. Diet involves taking more of fruits and vegetables, drinking cleanest water, low salt, sugar, fat in diet. Exercise should be atleast 20 min a day. It can be walk, yoga, gym, cycling, swimming etc. Household and job work do not count as exercise. Stress reduction techniques are a good adjunct. Stress reduction techniques include progressive muscle relaxation, breathing techniques, yoga, meditation, XXXXXXX etc.

This does not mean that you stop medicines right away. It may cause dangerous rise in the BP. Even the medicines should be changed or stopped under doctors guidance and should be withdrawn slowly.

The erectile dysfunction may be because of stress or side effect of BP medicines. Thus let me name of medicines.

You should see a cardiologist for high BP.

Regarding low weight try the following:

o     Divide your meals into smaller and frequent portions.
o     Include nuts and oil-seeds in your daily diet. You can use peanut butter for a tasty treat. Try flax seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, pistachios, and other nuts and seeds.
o     Include protein sources like whole beans, legumes, vegetables like mushroom, soy and milk in daily diet, for building muscles, which is a healthy way for gaining weight. If you are a non vegetarian, try having the fat free meats and prefer the non-fried preparations.
o     Include starchy foods like potato, tapioca, sweet potato etc.
o     Drink plenty of water and other fluids like tender coconut water, fresh juices, fresh soups, lemon juice etc. but avoid taking the fluids immediately before or in between the meals, as this reduces the calorie intake.
o     Avoid the carbonated drinks like coke, Pepsi etc.
o     Avoid taking snacks immediately before or around the meal timings, as it affects the appetite.

Hope it helps

Brief Answer:
Atenolol could have caused your symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I dont know why two medicines were started as the initial stepin treatment of hypertension. The JNC 8 recommendations are to start only one drug in the beginning if diet and exercise have failed to control the BP.

Amlokind-AT has amlodipine and atenolol. Atenolol is nowadays not preferred as first line treatment for hypertension. Erectile dysfunction is an uncommon but dreaded side effect of this medicine. Its mostly reversible, though sometimes it may take a few months.

I am not aware of doctors in XXXXXXX You can either visit a reputed hospital nearby or you can find a cardiologist by visiting the following link:
www.healthcaremagic.com/doctors

You can take your previous reports to the cardiologist. He will check them and prescribe the tests that may be relevant. These would mostly be the basic tests needed to rule out causes of hypertension.

Your normal weight range is 52 to 68 kg. Though your weight is normal, if you put on a few more kilos, you will be ok. It will not affect your BP unless it happens too quickly.

Hope I answered your query.
