Can Lupus Lead To Low Amniotic Fluid During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Oct 2017
Question: Hi, I am 20weeks pregnant, I am also an SLE patient. A recent scan shows that I have almost nil amniotic fluid. Lupus may be the reason. Can you please suggest some ways to increase the fluid.

Brief Answer:
You can not do much about it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
As you are suffering from SLE than oligohydraminos(low amniotic fluid) is due to that only.
You can only drink a lot of water, healthy diet and proper rest.
But before all this you must get your ultrasound scan to rule out congenital abnormalities because it is one of the cause of early oligohydraminos.
So you should get your double marker test.
It is sad to say but early oligohydraminos prognosis is very bad and misscarriage is a probability.
So you should be on regular visits with your Gynecologist.
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
Good luck.

Hi Doc,
Thanks for reply. I had already done my Triple marker test. Which shows there are no abnormalities. Moreover it was a TIFFA scan which was performed on last Sunday. which shows everything, organs of the baby are perfectly developed as per the gestation and also it weighs 312gms.

The only thing which worries me is the nil amniotic fluid comment.
Could you please suggest. If I should go for another scan to clear this. I earlier had a scan in 3rd month. where baby was doing perfectly fine.

Still I can feel the movements inside. and heartbeat is at 170 per min measured yesterday.

Please advice on scan. Which one to perform to accurately measure the level of fluid

Brief Answer:
Get pelvic ultrasound.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the information.
You should get your pelvic ultrasound by a good ultrasonologist to know the exact fluid quantity.
And repeat scan is advised in your case.

Good luck.
