Question: Can kidney cancer be misdiagnosed as stones or do they look very different
I have recently been told I have some things, they are thinking are calcifications show up in an x ray in my kidney, but I have been tired, have had weird body odors and have been wondering if something is going on, is there a possibility this is cancerous? Would that show in an x ray?

Brief Answer:
CT scan whole abdomen

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Symptoms of kidney cancer are pain in the side below the ribs that won’t go away and blood in urine.

An x ray cannot determine kidney cancer. You need to do a CT scan of whole abdomen. A CT (computerised tomography) scan is a procedure that uses x-ray beams to take pictures of the inside of your body. Unlike a standard x-ray, which takes a single picture, a CT scan compiles many pictures into one complete picture of an area of your body.

CT scans are useful for identifying a tumour in the kidney and checking whether cancer has spread to other organs and tissues. The scan can provide information about the size, shape and position of a tumour. In the CT scan kidney tumour looks as a space occupying lesion over the kidney. It also helps identify enlarged lymph nodes that might contain cancer and secondary cancer sites.

In a CT scan kidney cancer is not misdiagnosed as stones .
