Can I Withdraw Fentanyl Patch Inspite Of Using Oxycodone For Pain Management?

Posted on Wed, 4 Jun 2014
Question: I have been taking pain meds for 14 years due to herniated disks in my cervical neck. since the initial injury, my disks have started to bulge. I also have gone thru 2 surgerys for oral cancer, losing 1/2 my tongue and lymph nodes in neck. I am on oxycodone 30 mg. every 4 hours for breakthrough pain, also use a fentanyl 75mcg. my question is first is would a delayed action oxycodone like maybe an 80 mg every 12 hours and the 30's for breakthrough? instead of the fentynal patch ? is that even a possibility, before asking my pain doc. also, if you have 120 pills and this would last 10 days at 12 a day, and you have a new script for 120 more, do you have to wait the full 12 days before filling the new script or can it be filled 2 or 3 days early?
