Brief Answer: you potentially can Detailed Answer: You technically can. Oxycontin is a "long acting" medication, and the effect lasts longer, that is why it should not be taken more often than 12 hours. These medications as you probably know can make you drowsy, and have many side effects, so the dosage should be carefully increased. If you have been taking these medications for a long time, there should be less risk of mixing them. Hydrocodone/acetaminophen is a "short acting medication" and should only be used for "breakthrough pain". Therefore only if the oxycontin is not enough to control the pain. You should be careful as the acetaminophen can damage the liver, and it is not recommended to take more than 4-6 pills containing acetaminophen per day. A local pain management specialist can further assist you with your dosage depending on your history and usage.
