Can I Have Partial Hysterectomy Inspite Of Having Prednisone For Ear Infection?

Posted on Mon, 30 Jun 2014
Question: I have a partial hysterectomy scheduled for this thursday to remove an ovary that is very diseased.

Coincidentally I got an ear infection last week and my ear drum ruptured. It has healed but loud tinnitus still is there. A hearing test today showed hearing loss in that ear. The ear doctor wants me on a strong dose of Prednisone for 10 days.

Problem is my gyn will not do surgery if i start the prednisone.

If I choose to delay starting the steroids and go ahead with my surgery, is that dangeous?

Also how soon after the surgery can I start the Prednizone to try to restore hearing and elliminate the tinnitus?

Brief Answer:
tinnitus treatment first

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
In my opinion take prednisolone first and complete the course so that the ear problem is solved and then proceed for surgery.
In that case you will have to postpone the surgery for at least 3 weeks because prednisolone interferes with healing.
I would like to know a few things like -
- Is the tinnitus very bothersome?
- what is the indication for removal of ovary?
- is it possible to reschedule surgery?
In case it can't be postponed and tinnitus is not very bothersome then ovary surgery to be taken up first otherwise tinnitus treatment is more important specially if ovary surgery is not an emergency.
