Can High Bilirubin Levels Cause Liver Damage?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Nov 2017
Question: I went to the doctor a few days ago with fever, chills and fatigue. I put in down to a virus/influenza. I am feeling a lot better the last few days. My doctor done blood test. I received the results and everything is normal but my billirubin is nearly double the normal level. Should I be worried of liver damage or anything else? My doctor said not to worry and he will do a retest in a few months to see if any change. Advice please?

Brief Answer:
Upload the results for review!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I will like to review these results myself so as to provide a personalized and helpful response. I need to see every other detail of the other tests values so as to provide a comprehensive response that applies to you. Basing a response on bilirubin levels alone is grossly misleading.

I also take whey protein powder and train a lot just for your information. I have no allergies and I'm not on any medication other than paracetamol for my fever last week

Brief Answer:
Probably a spurious finding at this time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this report.

I have reviewed them. It's not convincing that just a single value could be this out of normal range. To me, it is is more of a spurious finding. I concur with your doctor that we do nothing a follow up with a control evaluation in 2-3months.

I wish you well and hope you get to share the added information with me.
