Can Hearing Aids Cause Dizziness?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: I am experiencing dizziness . I have a new hearing aid (my first) and this dizziness started pretty soon after I received it. I have used the exercizes for the ear problems of the "rocks" in the hairs of the inner ear, and although they seeem to relive the dizziness, it returns before long. It is beginning to affect my life so that I are wary of driving, and I never know when it will strike. Can this be because of the hearing aid, and is there a way to correct it? Thank you.

Answers and solutions for your vertigo issues.

1. Hearing aid acts only on hearing system but on vestibular system. There fore your dizziness could be due to some other cause.

2. Your dizziness could be due to ischemic vascular changes of brain (common at elderly persons) or due to cervical spondylitis or due to fluctuations of blood sugar and blood pressure or serum electrolytes or reoccurrence of BPPV (benign pariximal positional vertigo).

3. I suggest you to to re consult your ent surgeon and get vestibular tests ( differentiation between inner ear vertigo and brain vartigo), blood tests (electrolytes), X-ray cervical spine and if necessary CT scan of brain to see age related ischemic changes. Depending on the examination reports further treatment is required accordingly.

In the mean time, maintain balanced diet, do not drive and take some one's help during your daily activities to prevent accidental falls.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
