Can Diet Or Medication Accelerate Osteoarthritis?

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Sep 2017
Question: Also , is there ANYTHING that could be causing such a rapid acceleration of this disease? I've had the osteoarthritis since at least my late thirties and it was not much more than joints getting fatter and minor manageable discomfort, and slight morning stiffness. But the last maybe 8 months have been at an alarming, extremely painful worsening of my condition , but just my hands , thank God. I haven't had any significant injuries or the like. Do you know of any possible culprits, like diet, medications , etc?

Brief Answer:
Could be due to naturalprogression or stopping prednisolone

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
I have read your current question and some previous questions.
In my opinion you are suffering from what we call as sero negative rheumatoid arthritis( When the blood tests are negative for RA). Osteoarthritis of the hands involves a different area - only distal part.
As far as acute increase in swelling over 8 months - possibly stoppage of steroids can cause it . Moreover the disease comes in phases of relapse and recurrances increase and decrease in activity of disease.
Thans for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
