Can Contraceptive Pills Cause Irregular Menstrual Cycle?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Sep 2015
Question: Hello,

Last month there was a point in time where I didn't take my birth control pills regularly. Me and my boyfriend did have unprotected sex. When I did start taking my pills again, I finished the month that I messed up on. When I got to the pills that made my period start, my period didn't come until 4 days into taking the pills and only stayed for about a day. It has been 4 weeks since I have had unprotected sex and I am supposed to get my period next week. I have taken 4 pregnancy test which all have came out negative. I have not experienced any pregnancy symptoms. Am I pregnant?

Brief Answer:
Not pregnant. Periods flow varies with pills. That one day bleed was period

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. There is very unlikely chance for you to get pregnant. Last month the bleeding phase you had for a day only was your period so the odds of pregnancy gone with that relative to that cycle.

Now this cycle there are still days to come for the period. So pregnancy tests can not come positive that early.

The scanty periods had you confused. Pills lead to periods flow variation. Even amenorrhea can result from pills intake. But it does not mean pregnancy if the test is negative.

So next period is due next week. it is not pregnancy as far as last period is concerned. If you have been compliant this month i am sure this month wont be a problem either. If you believe there is delay in periods ( which is normal from 21 to 35 days of regular cycle) get a pregnancy test on morning urine 33rd day afterward.Day 40 will confirm by a sonogram.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
