Can Cold Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil Be Used On Bandages After Circumcision?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jun 2016
Question: Hi, my son 6 years old got circumcised yesterday and is covered by bandage. The nurse will remove the bandage over the sutures tomorrow. Can I start applying cold pressed Virgin coconut oil over the bandage so that it can come off easily, so that my son will not have to undergo the pain while removing it?
Thanks, XXXX

Brief Answer:
No oil should not be applied

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to this forum.
Can understand your concerns.

Oil should not be applied to remove bandage because it can result in infection.
It will be better if normal saline solution is used to soften and remove the bandage so that infection doesn't occur.

I hope this will help you.
Wishing your child good health.
Take care.

Thanks for the response, my kid's dressing was removed today, he was circumcised on 17th. There's a small skin hanging beneath the penis I have attached the image.. It would be great if you can advice, will this fall off by itself.?

Brief Answer:
looks unlikely that it will fall by itself

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have seen the picture that you have attached.
From the picture, it seems that the skin is not that small and it will not fall by itself.
I think it should be examined by the surgeon who has operated it, as it might need an small incision.

Take care.

Thanks Doctor for your quick response.
Is this something to worry about ? My kid is real trauma and will not be able to undergo any kind of stress again. Can this left ?

Brief Answer:
Its nothing to worry about

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Its nothing to worry about, even if required only a minor incision will do the work.
Sometimes, the picture of the lesion does not tell you the correct thing and its better to get the child examined for a correct verdict.

I think that you should not worry about this, its a very common thing after circumcision and does not require incision all the time.

Take care.
