Can Change In Mother's Diet Effect The Baby?

Question: Hello Doctor,
My baby is 3 months and 5 days old and I had been breastfeeding him since the beginning. On doctor's advice due to low weight (3.6Kg), when he was 60 days old, I started him with formula feeding. Though Doc advised Enfamil A+ 1, but due to unavailability I started giving him Nan Pro 1 along with breastmilk. I started with 90ml three times a day and for the rest of the time breastmilk. He had watery stools on the first day after consumption, but since next day he had loose stools like he used to have when he was breastfeeding. Since few days I'm have been very frequent with red meat in my diet and since then he is having different kind of stools that confuses me and making me worried.
1. yellowish-brown little paste-like texture
2. yellowish-brown paste-like potty with water
3. yellowish-brown paste-like potty with mild white curd-like texture (like his vomit)
4. yellowish-brown loose potty
Can this be the reason behind change in his stools? Can change in mother's diet effect baby?
Since last 2 days he had vomits at night but he has also got the habit of sucking his fingers which can be the reason of vomit I guess, coz he starts doing it when he plays after being fed. And last night he was very much uncomfortable and had gas which kept him awake till 3 in the morning. Presently I am feeding him with 120ml of Nan Pro 1, 4 times a day and breastmilk for rest of the time. But apart from all these things, my baby is very active, happy, playful, feeds and sleeps very well.
So please help me out if I need to worry.

Brief Answer:
Breast milk is the best possible milk for your baby

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcaeMagic.

The best milk for a new born child is her mother's breast milk and there can be no alternatives for the same. Many doctors suggest formula milk since it might contribute to better weight gain, but that is not a good practice and it does not justify offsetting the benefits of breast milk. If possible, try to switch back entirely to breast milk back again. The production of breast milk depends upon the demands of the baby and if the baby is hungrier, it will suck more and automatically breast milk production will increase.

Change in the milk is likely to be the cause of change in consistency of stool and changing back to breast milk should make a difference. Please note that variation in consistency of a child of this age, is normal. Stool frequency may vary between ten times a day to once in 10 days and both are normal and not something to worry about. Mother's diet in only indirectly related to that of the baby and a simple healthy diet is enough. You need not worry about it otherwise.

The child might be suffering from reflux which might be causing the child to vomit. Be sure to burp the baby. Hold the child upright for about 20 mins after each feed. Finger sucking is usually a pacifier and stress reliever for a baby. However, talking to and engaging with the baby should be helpful for the baby.

You need not worry. Since the child is active and playful, things seem fine.

Actually the problem is that every time he had my milk since beginning he seemed to be unsatisfied and stayed inactive. Like day before yesterday as I said he very much uncomfortable and had wind problem I didn't gave him nan pro the other day since morning, and after which he didn't sleep the entire day neither did he play as he used to, also after every breastfeed he cried. I feel bad for being unable to produce enough milk for my baby. Seeing this I gave him 120ml of formula in the evening and to my XXXXXXX he was active and slept very comfortably. That made me to come to the conclusion that I don't produce enough milk due to which he stays hungry making the use of formula necessary for the baby.

Also I wore him diapers in the evening, while changing the diapers at night it had loose potty that was absorbed by the diapers with very less paste-like content.

1. Is his stomach upset? What should be done?
2. What can I do to help him with the wind problem?
3. And what about the various textures of his potty I mentioned in my last question?

Brief Answer:
I will still emphasize on breast feeding.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back and for clarifying. If you patiently observe, you will be able to make out the cause of discomfort or crying of your baby. The cause of discomfort will vary from time to time. Addressing it correctly will relieve the baby. I understand that the baby might be restless when hungry but I assure you that breast feeding can take care of this problem. Anyway:
1. & 2. The stomach is not upset. But often the child ingests air along with food and feels restless thereafter. Giving Decolic Infant Drops (or Colicaid Dops) 6 drops should provide relief.
3. You need not be bothered with the stool consistency so long as the child is active and fine.

Ya would definitely do that, but one last situation needs to be consulted. Today my baby had loose potty as I've already mentioned but while doing it he was very uncomfortable and was crying.. Is that a matter to worry or that can happen?

Brief Answer:
Cow milk based formula are difficult for the child to digest.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Most formula milks are cow milk based and hence difficult for the baby to digest. Hence, it is not unusual for the child to feel uncomfortable and be crying. If you give formula milk, you will have to consider this acceptable. Else, you would have to switch to breast milk as I have suggested.

Giving Decolic or Colicaid Drops may give the child relief.
