Can Cannabis Be Smoked After Recovering From A Tear On Esophagus

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Feb 2015
Question: Hi, I just recovered from a very small tear in my esophagus. I have been XXXXXXX and eating solid food for two days now. I am not taking any meds and am otherwise very healthy. Would smoking cannabis (something i've done for a while for unrelated neck pain) be a bad idea?

Brief Answer:
Smoking cannabis wont do any harm for you recently healed esophagus.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Any smoking (including cigarettes and marijuana) does not affect esophagus directly. Tears in the digestive tract do heal very quickly. It usually takes few days. Its because digestive tract cells multiply very fast. So as you eat solid foods, smoking wont do any harm to your esophagus.
But you need to know that regular smoking increases the risk of esophageal cancer (as well as respiratory tract cancer, throat cancer, mouth cancer, larynx cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer). This is the only reason you should avoid smoking.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
