Can Aloe Vera Cure Acid Reflux And Indigestion?

Posted on Fri, 16 Oct 2015
Question: doe's Aloe Vera help stop heartburn ie: acid reflux and or indigestion. I have been scoped both ways and told I have these problems from stress. Told I have IBS, tiny ulcers in intestines but not to worry, it's all caused from stress. Put on a med for 10 days to help cure little ulcers and told to take Zantac 750 twice a day. So far I still have this. Went to Specialist and he put me on all this, assuring me I had no Berrats or cancer. Tell me it's all from stress. Will Aloe Vera help?

Brief Answer:
Stress lead to increase in acid secretions. Aloevera do help

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am Dr.Amit Jain (DM, Gastroenterologist).
Good to hear that you don't have Barretts or cancer
.
Aloevera do help in patients with acid peptic disease, I also found it very useful in my patients with this disease.

Stress definitely lead to increase in acid secretion as our brain and gastrointestinal tract are interrelated which is known as brain- gut axis.

Few more tips I will like to advise which I found very useful in my patients are:
1. Avoid spicy food, Tea coffee, and citrus fruits and fatty meals
2. Don' lie down at least for 2 hrs after any meal
3. Take small and frequent meals
4. Don't drink water after taking meals
5. Do regular exercise
6. Wear loose clothes

Among medications:
1. Take ilaprazole along with a prokinetic agent levosulpiride
2. Take Famotidine at time of sleep

I hope I have answered your query. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Wish you a good health

thank You for your quick responce. Are the medicines you said to take Prescription meds? Can all these meds be taken along with alovera with no interactions? I am sure the levosulpiride is the one my Dr prescribed for me.
What about taking Zantac along with aloevera? I do not like taking meds and am always afraid of interactions.
Thank You Again
Regards

Brief Answer:
No interaction of zantac or medicine which I have suggested with aloevera

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back, sorry for delay. These are not prescriptions medicines. Yes these all can be taken without any interaction with aloevera. Zantac can also be taken with alovera but it is very mild in efficacy, may not help you. Don't be afraid there is no such interaction at least with aloevera. Wish you a good health
