My husband is an alcoholic and is very depressed. He was taking Zoloft but has been changed to Ativan. He is also Type II diabetic. He is currently taking per day clonidine .2 mg, diltiazem 180mg ex, lovastatin 80 mg, metoprolol 100 mg, Glucovance 2.5/500 2x day. He is drinking and extremely depressed. Can/should he take the Ativan? Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer: Follows. Detailed Answer: Dear Madam, Thank you for posting your query on XXXXXXX Well looking into your problem ativan contains lorazepam which is generally safe to use but there is a mark of caution with alcoholics . But that is not a contraindication for taking that , but take it in the dose as prescribed by your treating doctor strictly and adhere to his instruction , any abnormal sign you should take notice . Your husband can take the medicine as advised to him. Take care. Dr. Shruti
