Question: My friend, who has been alcoholic for several years, was admitted to the hospital with bilateral pneumonia. She had to be iintubated. At some point she lost consciousness and stayed unconscious for approximately one week. Upon regaining consciousness she was exhibiting stroke like symptoms. It has been three weeks now and her condition only seems to deteriorate. They have done a CAT scan and it was negative for stroke. Could she have had a seizure from alcohol withdrawal which caused brain damage? She continues to have sudden fevers for no apparent reason and they have to put a G-tube in her because she cannot swallow. Her muscles are like limp noodles. I am at a loss here any advice would be so helpful as she is in one of the worst hospitals in western Massachusetts. She has also been tested for blood infection and that was negative as well.

She has been moved out of the ICU, and has rapidly declined. The doctors that are treating her do not know why she is failing, as all the testing they have done has thus far been negative. She is confused and at times combative. She can't walk, and has difficulty speaking. She is exhibiting neurological abnormalities and I am not sure they have consulted a Neurologist yet either. As I said in my first question, this is a very awful hospital, and unfortunately no good doctors stay there very long. I still think that she might have had a seizure due to alcohol withdrawals. I know the CT scan was negative for stroke, but will a seizure show up on one? I am getting extremely nervous.
