Question: Hello Dr,
Can acid flex i.e GERD cause intermittent shortness of breath last for maybe a second or two? No pain or tightness of chest involved. Appears not related to exercise and happens sitting/working at office or watching tv etc. I work out at least times a week with out any fatigue and am 57 years old moderate obesity ~ 30 pounds.
Family history - father stroke, siblings high BP -- I am taking 100 mg metropolol, 37.5 hctz and lisenopril my BP ~ 104/80. Your thoughts thanks XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. yes in some cases shortness of breath can occur in patients of GERD. You need to take general and medical care to reduce the symptoms. Surgical treatments are also available for if GERD becomes more symptomatic. General measures include:

- take small frequent meals.
- take 30-45mins walk/exercise daily in the evening. It will make you fresh, healthy and is good for digestion.
- Don't lie down immediately after taking meal
- raise head end of your bed slightly(by an inch)
- Eat a diet rich in fiber, especially from fruits and vegetables

> AVOID:
fatty & oily food.
spices
heavy meals at night
carbonated & caffine drinks
chocolates
