Can A Stroke Be Cured Without Treatment?

Question: Question: Did my father have a stroke at 45?

My father is 60 now. He had slightly elevated cholesterol at that time but good blood pressure. Was under a lot of stress at 45.

One day he was lifting something heavy and suddenly felt very dizzy and confused. Not sure i he had tingling. He is very private and would not say. He NEVER got treatment. For 6 months he felt confusion (enough that it worried him a lot) and was dizzy. But after 6 months it went away.

Can someone with a stroke and no treatment just heal like that? Is that possible? Does this sound like a stroke?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Most likely he had stroke.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your father's symptoms. Based on that, he most probably had suffered from brain stroke. Brain strokes involving left hemisphere of the brain, especially the frontal or temporal lobes can cause confusion. Cerebellar stroke can cause dizziness.

About 50% of strokes heal on their own within a few weeks to 1-2 years.

For confirmation, a brain scan (MRI) can be done now also, and it would show the scar of old stroke.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Hello

Thank you for your answer.

Is it unusual his confusion and dizziness lasted 6 months do you think? Is that typical to last that long but with no intervention to heal?

Thank you

Brief Answer:
6 months is not unusual.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Most patients with brain stroke take 3-6 months to improve, so, it is not unusual Those who are adequately treated, however, may recover faster (within a few days to few weeks).

Best wishes,
