Can Tetanus Shot Be Taken For Injury On Face Region?

Question: hello doctor. my husband got hit by a handle bar while boarding an auto on 11.12.2015 early morning. please refer the attachment. he had kept ice cubes to stop bleeding yesterday. kindly advice whether to proceed for dressing? reg, XXXX

Hello XXXX,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Injury to face region above eye is not deep.

You can let it open with cleaning by Betadine solution and application of neosporine powder or Betadine ointment over the wound three times daily.

No need of dressing. Keep it clean.

Importantly a tetanus toxoid injection is to be given if immunisation is doubtful and recently not given.

It has been more than 50 hours after he got hurt..is it still fine if we go with TT shot now...

If he is vaccinated for tetanus and taken booster in last 10 years then it may be not required.
But in case of no Vaccination or not remember last vaccine dose then better to give.
