Posted on Wed, 4 Nov 2015
Question: Hello Doctor. I need your advice and i hope you can help.

My Bp is on average 110/70.
Ive been using a testosterone booster for bodybuilding, bit also to help with increase stress at work in general and my BP is elevating. Sometimes 150/100, sometimes 135/95 or 140/90.

I know now that i made a mistake and hence i need your help.

I' ve been on nebidudol 4ml, a month for 4 months- XXXXXXX july, aug, sep. recently i started having cold shivers and fever and since i live in XXXXXXX i assumed it was malaria. After malaria treatment still have some slight fever but the main issue is the BP.

I have some knowledge of the blood plasma increaseing red blood count which may be the cause of the high BP. I went to see a local doctor and he prescribed : Presartan (50mg) - Lossrtan Potassium - Tablet.

I have some L-Argine which helps at time since its a vasodialator but i need a sollution.

I really regret taking this stuff but now I cant dwell on the problem i need to know what i need to do to fix myslef. Is it possible ?

Please advise what i must do ? Tests i need to do ? To get myslef back to normal.

Sincerely.

XXXX

Brief Answer:
Take BP medications

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome back to HCM. Thanks for posting the question.

Testosterone can cause increase in red blood cells in body and rarely cause increased blood pressure.

My suggestions:

1. Do a complete blood count (to see if red cells are high) and serum electrolytes.

2. Stop all supplements you are taking for body building. Many of these contain steroid which wont be there in the product label.

3. Decrease the salt intake

4. Continue with anti BP medications till BP is below 120/80, then gradually decrease the dose. Losartan is a good anti BP medication.

If the BP is uncontrolled or you need many tablets a day, you need to have tests to see if there are any secondary causes for BP. Hormones like cortisol, renin, aldosterone and doppler ultrasound of kidneys are done if needed.

Hope I have answered your question. Wishing you good health.

Hello Doctor. Thank you for advice. How long will it take anti BP medicine to take effect? On average after how many days should i see a change ?

I have been on 3 days now. I stopped all supplements, etc since begining of september. So its almost 6 weeks now. I have reduced sodium completely.

How long will it take the BP medicine to reduce me to stable 120/80 ~ 110/70 ?

Brief Answer:
It depends, the drug effects within 3 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome back.

The BP medications usually control BP within hours and we wait for maximum 3 days to add on medications if the BP is not controlled.

So if the BP is not below 140/90 mm hg by now, you have to add on medications. Add in a diuretic to Losartan will be a good choice.

If the BP is below 120/80 after a week, you can decrease the dose of Losartan to 25 mg and follow up after a week.

How long it will take to control ?- Depends on individual - some needs life long medications.
