Can STD Be Contracted Through Unprotected Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: I'm a 33 year old relatively healthy black male.

I had vaginal and receptive oral sex with a woman who's STD status I did not know. The vaginal sex was protected with a condom but there was about 20-30 seconds of unprotected oral sex and then a minute or two of her licking my unprotected testicles. During the sex, I wiped my protected penis off with a white towel and noticed some yellowness on the towel. I'm not sure if the yellowness was from the condom lubrication or her vagina. I may have used the same towel to wipe my penis off after I removed the condom, I'm not sure but I either used a clean part of the towel or just didn't use the towel. I just don't remember.

About 6 days later, I ejaculated and some of the ejaculate seemed to go back inside of me instead of come out. This has happened before and I have had no problem afterward.

A day later, I shaved my genitals and noticed that my balls seemed irritated. My left groin area in between my scrotum and thigh was reddened. Also my balls were reddened some. I thought that may have been because I've been running/sweating a lot lately due to marathon training and also because of the clippers that I just used to shave but then I started thinking about the sex that I had a week earlier.

The next day I started noticing that I needed to pee a lot more. It's been a day since then and I'm noticing that I'm still constantly feeling the urge to pee all the time. When I pee, I'm peeing anywhere from the regular amount to a little amount. My testicles feel a little discomfort too but not much. It's not pain at all, it's just a little discomfort. They aren't swollen nor red. I haven't seen any discharge from my penis and I haven't experienced any burning or pain while peeing. I don't have any rashes, spots, warts, or anything like that right now. I don't have itching or anything like that either. I have some chafed areas in the crevice between my testicles and thigh on the left side but that's about it. Pretty much, I'm just having frequent urination.

I'm just wondering if this is the start of an STD or maybe it's a bacterial infection or UTI. I've never officially had a UTI or an STD so I'm worried. I've never really had this much frequent urination either. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Seems to me like a UTI is more likely than an STD based on current facts

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. In my opinion, here are my views:

1. The reddened region between your scrotum and thigh could either be a friction burn (from the marathon training), or a yeast/fungal infection caused from leaving the region wet or moist for a long period of time

2. Frequent urination could be from a simple urinary tract infection (UTI) which if occurred due to the sexual contact would have manifested within a day (latest) from the contact; or due to stress (more likely in your case)

3. The fact that it has been just 6 days is still inconclusive, but it does seem unlikely to be an STD from the information provided

4. Also, the fact that you have only 1 symptom of frequent urination does not hold too much weight in order to make a diagnosis, so let us wait for a while longer sir

In conclusion, based on the information provided sir, it seems to me like this could most probably be a simple UTI and not an STD as of now.

I hope I have explained things in a manner best understood by you. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

Thanks for your candid response. I went and got an STD test last week and I shall receive the results this week sometime. I'm just freaking out. One last question, typically, if it were an STD, would the discharge come before or after the frequent urination? Should I be looking for the discharge during urination? Should I wear light underwear so that I can see if the discharge is soiling my underwear? I haven't seen any in my underwear yet. I'm not sure how it works generally. I haven't seen any sores or any itching or any discharge yet.

I had some Doxycycline, 100 mg, from folliculitis episode a couple months ago so I've started taking that pre-emptively. I've taken three in the last 48 hours. It doesn't seem to be helping with the urination. Should it be? I don't know if the urination is from stress/anxiety but if it were from a STD, would it be stopping by now? I'm planning to keep taking twice a day until I get results either Monday or Tuesday. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
All queries addressed sir :)

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

+The discharge can occur before, at the same time and some times even after the frequent urination, but in most cases all together.

+The light coloured underwear will not really be required right now sir, the first thing you would notice would be a stain in your underwear (whether light or dark) caused by penile discharge. The colour can be assessed later on :)

+If the infection-causing organism (i.e. if it is an infection) is sensitive to doxycycline, then being on it for 48 hours (minimum) should have produced some results by now. But as you can see sir, there are too many 'ifs' in that statement :)

+You can choose to continue with the doxycycline if you wish to sir, I do not see the harm in it, but please make sure you take a complete normal course (and not a shorter course); as this can result in resistance, making doxycycline ineffective for use in you for the complete future

I hope I have explained things in a manner best understood by you. Please do not hesitate to write to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help. :)

Best wishes.

Thanks for all of your help. I'm still experiencing frequent urination. I went to the doctor today and she said that she doesn't think it's a STD or anything serious. She thinks it's jock itch and maybe some fungus. She inspected the area and said nothing looked like an STD. She said it was fungal not bacterial and she prescribed some steroid cream. She still gave me a urine test and it didn't test positive for anything preliminary in the office so they are going to send it off to the lab for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. I'm still waiting for the results of that other STD test that I took last Friday.

I took Doxycycline last night and also this morning. I still seem to be urinating too frequent. But I still haven't seen any bumps, discharge, or experienced any pain or anything like before/while/after urinating. I masturbated last night and everything was fine, the color was the same as always. Would I see other symptoms of an STD by now? Shouldn't the Doxycycline stop the frequent urination?

Brief Answer:
Glad to receive another confirmation that this is not an STD

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

It is good that you visited a doctor for an evaluation, but I would like to ask if you informed the doctor that you were on doxycycline? Because the doxycycline could interfere with the urine test results, and lead them to report an inaccurate result.

As for the visual ruling out of STD by your doctor, this is good news and in accordance with what every body thinks so far.

You should have experienced other symptoms of an STD also by now sir, which you haven't.

I would also like to emphasize on not masturbating at all for at least 2 weeks, because it can aggravate anything that you could be having, even something as simple a UTI.

I hope this helps sir. Keep me in the loop once the test results return.

Best wishes sir.

Yesterday my GP said I was negative for Leukocytes but sent it off for a full analysis anyway. What are Leukocytes and what do they have to do with STD. I told her of the Doxycycline. Now I'm wondering if the Doxy maybe stopped me from having any other symptoms of the STD.

I still haven't seen any other symptoms. Coukd the Doxycycline have caused any of the slight testicle discomfort that I was having?

Some of the results came back from my first std test at Labcorp. In negative on everything but still waiting on Gonorrhea and Chlyamidia results. Aren't those just urine tests? Why are those taking longer? Could it be that they are retesting due to a positive?

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry about in my opinion

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

Leukocytes are the body's natural defence mechanism, so whenever there is an infection in the body the leukocytes increase in number. So if there was an infection in the body (even if it were an STD), the leukocyte number would rise/increase.

No, doxycycline cannot cause the testicular discomfort you are experiencing.

But if at all the doxycycline did mask the symptoms, then it is a good thing and complete the course in that case.

They can take some time as they are usually sent over to central labs when it has to do with an STD, so nothing to worry about so far sir.

Best wishes.
