Can Prilosec Be Taken For Dyspepsia?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Jun 2016
Question: I have been on prilosec for 1 1/2 months and this has muted a number of sx: discomfort in the LLQ, bloated feeling and a touch of heartburn. Yet the gas pressure that occurs (usually below the diaphragm) after eating and when the stress level is cranked up is still present. Sometimes pressure from my belt produces a bit of discomfort (not pain really) but I am a programmer with poor posture. Passing the gas via either orifice does provide relief. Doubtless anxiety and my sedentary job exacerbate the problem but I am curious what the likely dx would be. I have a family history of chronic indigestion and stomach ulcers (mother and maternal grandfather). Lastly, I do have a bit of a burning sensation occasionally in the LLQ/stomach area - this symptom has been greatly muted by the Prilosec. I hope you can shed some light on this. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Simethicone plus charcoal preparations

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

You seem to have Dyspepsia accompanied with or without peptic ulcer. Prilosec is an excellent drug and gives immediate relief of most of the symptoms that you had. However you should follow certain lifestyle modificaitons unless otherwise you would never be happy with the results it gives. Physical activity and daily mandatory movement of the bowels are important. As the activity increases the movement increases and the gas passes off in the morning before you have embarassing situaiton in the office.
I suggest you to take preparation with simethicone plus charcoal in it available over the counter. GAS X is a good preparation but does not have charcoal in it.
You should avoid complex carbohydrates and employ easily digestible foods at least for sometime till you take PRILOSEC.
Let me know if you have left over queries.
