Can Nattokinase Be Taken Instead Of Aspirin Without Any Side Effects?

Posted on Fri, 22 Apr 2016
Question: I am currently taking 325 mg of aspirin to prevent DVT due to a positive lupus like inhibitor blood test. I have had 2 negative lupus like inhibitor blood tests after that first positive one. I have never had a DVT and the only reason I got the blood test was because my brother had a DVT/PE. My question is do I need to be on aspirin and if so what dose, is it safe to just stop taking aspirin, can I stop taking aspirin and start taking nattokinase supplement?

Brief Answer:
aspirin may be stopped

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

As two lupus like inhibitors are now negative, chances of clot formation are negligible. So I think aspirin can be stopped. The dose of aspirin was anyway quite high for clot prevention.

Nattokinase is a natural product promoted for improving cardiovascular health and clot prevention but it has not been well studied in humans. Whatever small studies we have, were not able to show much benefit. So I am unable to recommend it at this point.

Hope this helps.

Is it dangerous to suddenly stop taking aspirin? Is there a dangerous rebound effect?

Brief Answer:
no there is not

Detailed Answer:
Aspirin does not have any rebound effect. Moreover, your risks of thrombosis are really low. So no harmful effects of stopping aspirin. Stoppage of aspirin is always abrupt in medical practice, provided its role has ended in the patient.
