Can Nan Pro Cause Nausea In Infants?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Nov 2015
Question: Hi, my baby is 9 weeks old.I feed him both my milk and NAN pro 1. He seems to spit up many times even though we make him burp after every feed. Also he seems to be having nausea sensation. Is it because of NAN Pro. We are giving little diluted formula milk as he might not be able to digest easily. Is it because of that. He also passes gas many times through out the day

Brief Answer:
Exclusive breast feeding is the best option

Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com
This is Dr. Swarnava dattagupta answering your query.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Exclusive breast feeding is the best option upto 6 months of age. However, formula feeds like nan pro are there too for those mothers who do not produce enough milk and hence both are mixed and given. As such, formula feeds do not have side effects apart from occasional constipation etc. You can continue giving formula feed if exclusive breast feeding is not possible.
Spitting up some milk is common in babies. Do not worry. Take good care to make him burp for 15-20 minutes after each feed.
Passage of gas is also seen in babies sometimes. If the baby passes stool regularly and passes urine 6-8 times a day then you should not worry. You can also give combination drops of simethicone, dill oil, fennel oil etc which are safe for babies and effective in gas problems.
Also do not over feed. Feed him till the time he refuses. Over feeding wont lead to quick growth of the baby.

Hope i have answered your question.
If you have any further questions i will be happy to help.
Regards.

We are giving him cyclopalm as suggested by a doctor friend. Is it fine or should we change to simethicone drops?

Brief Answer:
Yeah it is ok

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Yes cyclopam contains dicyclomine which is basically an antispasmodic. It acts well in stomach pain.
You can continue it for few days, I believe it will solve the problem. If the gas issue still persists, you can shift to the medications mentioned previously.

Hope this was helpful.
Regards.
