Question: Hi. My 6 year old boy has fever since yesterday followed by cold. Fever comes back as soon as power of crocin starts reducing. Should I give him mox syrup or Zathrin?

Brief Answer:
No, you should not.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections and antibiotics like mox or zathrin are ineffective in such cases. Give steam inhalation to your child. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief. You need to give crocin (paracetamol) to bring down the temperature. If paracetamol is not effective in bringing down the temperature, you need to use Meftal-P (mefenamic acid) which is more effective. Also use tepid sponging. Give some antiallergic like cetirizine along.

Please be patient, it should spontaneously resolve in 5-7 days.

Fever riding to 101.5. Starts rising after 3 hours of medication. Am repeating him crocin after 4-5 hours. This time have given him meftal. Given him cetzine before a while too. Eyes watering a lot. Sneezing and runny nose. Should I continue same medicines?
