Can Lexapro And Klonopin Be Taken Together?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Oct 2014
Question: I am on Lexapro 15 mg, Klonopin 2 mg, Keppra 1000 as mood stabilizer and Solian (amisulpride) 100mg. My psychiatrist decided to give me a higher dosage of Lexapro (from 10 mg to 15 mg) since one week for some OCD symptoms. I am a poor metabolizer for cyp2c19 and mild for cyp2d6. Since i have a higher dosage of Lexapro, i have some troubles with sleeping. So, i would like to know if it's possible to take a higher dosage of Klonopin at night (my psychiatrist suggested 2.5 mg), at least for a while, without interaction with the blood level of Lexapro. I mean, i would like to know if there is an important interaction between Lexapro and Klonopin, or there isn't, so i can take more Klonopin for some days without worry about Lexapro.
Thanks beforehand

Brief Answer:
No major interactions between the two.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your query.

There are no major interactions between Lexapro (Escitalopram) and Klonopin (Clonazepam). However, some people report an increase in drowsiness or dizziness with this combination. But this is only at the time of starting the combination. In your case, since you are already on 2mg dose, a further increase to 2.5 mg is unlikely to have any significant adverse effects.
