Question: I'm on Librium now to address a drinking problem mainly due to a major depression. Started drinking after going into early retirement due to health issues 2 years ago. Went manic after taking latuda after increasing the dosage. Have tried other anti depressants since then, but nothing works.

Brief Answer:
Latuda its used to treat mania

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

There are many antidepressants out there. Which of them works for you, will depend also on which one you have tried and haven't worked. In general I start treating my patients with Sertraline or Paroxetine and increase the dose gradually. It has always worked so far.

Latuda its not a medicine that give mania, but it treats mania

The medicines will work approximately with a 50% effect. The rest of the effect will depend on additional helps. Like for example you will help a lot your mood if you run daily. Start slow with 20 min 3-4 times/day and increase gradually.

Also, group therapy or psychotherapy have shown to be helpful as well.

Doing things you like during your day like going out to your friends for coffee, reading books, walking, ect...help a great deal.

You should also keep in mind that in order to see the effect of the medicine it needs around 3-4 weeks. And if it hasn't worked in full its recommended to increase the dose and wait for 3 weeks again.

The best thing to do its to go see a local doctor because they will need to follow up with you step by step and also for these medicines as you may know, you will need a prescription.

Hope this is helpful.
