Can Ibuprofen Be Taken With Heparin?

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Jun 2014
Question: I am currently on TPN through my port. I flush my port daily with heparin and saline. I currently have a sinus headache and have found that in the past only Advil cold and sinus has worked. I know that ibuprofen is not recommended to take with heparin, buy was curious if taking one sinus pill would be harmful. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
a few pills won't harm

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

Heparin is a very short acting drug, plus you are not even taking that at therapeutic dose. The dose needed to flush your port is almost negligible.

So you can take ibuprofen without any worry of adverse interactions or bleeding.

Hope I have been helpful.
